Early Schedule

For an alteration, the presence of the wedding dress is important on the right time and place. Start your research as soon as the wedding date is set. Make sure you know how long the designer will take to deliver the dress.

Buy the dress at least ten months prior to the wedding, as some designers and boutique have a waiting list. Don’t miss out the chance to look glamorous, by skipping an appointment. Schedule your first fitting 2 months prior to the wedding, and don’t delay the final fitting more than 2 weeks before the wedding.

Weight Watcher

Even after a strict diet you can’t be sure about your size on the wedding day. Remember this while you order your dress. It is easier to alter a big dress to a small size, than doing it the other way around.

Moreover, most of the wedding dresses have a corset that can adjusted to your shape. So, you can invest in a corset or A-line style gown, if you think your size is going to be considerable different on the wedding day.

A smart way to select a dress would be to focus on the gown’s structure. If the structure is complementing your shapes and curves, then you should definitely go for it.

Lastly, be mindful about the designer’s alteration policies. Know if they will entertain a drastic change to the design. This will give you room for adjustments.

Bring Along Accessories And Undergarments

What you wear under your dress will have a great impact on your fitting. Bring the undergarments that you will wear on your bid-day along with you to the fitting. Moreover, wear your jewelry to get the full look of your dress. The placement of your necklace might require an adjustment to your dress’s neckline.

Wedding Shoes

When altering the hem of the dress, make sure you carry your D-day shoes. Wear them with the dress to get an idea about the hemline adjustment and gown flow.

It is better to set a hemline that gently grazes the ground. This way, you can dance and mingle with your friends. It will also prevent you from tripping over your dress or getting it dirty. If you have a flowy gown or a long train, then kick-out when you walk to avoid falling.

Keep in mind the hem-line will get a little dirty, but it should be the least of your worries, a trip to the dry cleaners will preserve your beautiful dress.
