Need To Know About Laundry Cycles

Need to know about laundry cycles ? Staring at your washing machine, contemplating its functions?

Questioning your laundry technique?

Is your machine being under-utilized?

Can you get cleaner clothes with right washer settings?

Your job does not end at shoving all your dirty clothes in the washer; you need to choose right settings for ideal results.

Different loads have different cleaning requirement; you may have been washing your laundry the wrong way. Generally, there are 3 types of wash cycles that you can use for your laundry.

What is a washing cycle?

A washing cycle determines the spinning speed required for clothes placed in the washer. It spins and tumbles with the help of water pressure to clean dirt and grime.

Keep in mind not all clothes can sustain the same amount of pressure, which is why your machine offers different cycle settings. The cleanliness of your load is dependent on the amount of detergent used, agitation in the cycle, and water temperature. Choose wisely!

Types of wash cycle

Normal cycle

This cycle provides the highest level of agitation and is long in duration. This cycle is for your daily-wear clothes that have dust, dirt, sweat, and grime on them. A regular/normal wash cycle lasts for 8-15 minutes. It uses a fast combination of spinning and washing. Sturdy clothes like jeans, towels, linen or cotton can withstand this cycle without damaging its aesthetic.

For dirtier loads, you can prolong the cycle for cleaner results.

Permanent-press cycle

This cycle is specifically designed for synthetic fibers like, rayon polyester or knits.

These types of fabric are prone to wrinkles, which is why machines offer a wash cycle with fast agitation and slow spinning. The duration of this cycle is for 7-10 minutes and it uses a fast-slow machine setting (fast washing and slow spinning).

Delicate cycle

Gentle/delicate cycle offers a combination of slow washing and slow spinning setting for fabrics that are fragile in nature. It lasts for about 4-7 minutes and is recommended for lingerie, sequin clothes, and sheer fabric washing.

Special cycle

New machines offer better and versatile cleaning options, you can choose these special cycles for improved laundry results. Steam cycle has been introduced to treat clothes with stubborn stains. A sanitary cycle is used to disinfect clothes by washing them in hot water.
